Outdoor Movies for Crowds Large and Small

Outdoor movies are a fun way to relax in the evening. Although some projectors are capable of producing a picture bright enough to be seen during the day; the cool air, bright stars, dark skies and quiet atmosphere at night make the evening a better time for curling up in blankets or chairs for an outdoor movie.

There are four basic components in every outdoor theater: a screen, a projector, a video source and a sound system. Sometimes, when people want to have friends and neighbors over on a regular basis for an outdoor movie, they build their own backyard theaters. And, depending on how creative and frugal the builder is, these outdoor systems can be built using either large or small budgets.

Most people don't have the space or desire to make a permanent outdoor theater though. That is why some event coordinators decide to rent a full-service outdoor movie company. With professionals running the system rather than amateurs, things are bound to run more smoothly. Technicians bring, set up, run and take down the outdoor movie screens along with all the necessary equipment.

If there does happen to be some malfunctioning machinery, a professional outdoor movie supplier will always provide backup equipment like second projectors, generators, and video sources to ensure that the evening goes as planned.

A movie supplier will probably have more and better resources at hand as well. For example, a movie supplier will literally have thousands of movies for customers to choose from and many different screens. The sound systems they use will usually be capable of reaching as many as three thousand viewers and kids can play around with a Kid Cam to see themselves dancing up on the big outdoor movie screen. Those are some features a home-made theater isn't likely to offer.

If you want to add even more fun to the show, some outdoor movie companies will also rent out popcorn machines so you can provide refreshments. Whether you want to host a backyard party, a corporate event, a fundraiser, a school event, a concert or a sporting event, renting a big screen for the occasion can make your evening a lot more fun. And best of all, no one hosting the party has to spend a lot of effort to get things set up and working smoothly. Everyone can relax to enjoy the movie.

If you are trying to stretch your budget however, outdoor movies might not be your first choice for entertainment. One night with the equipment and technicians may cost as much as $2,300. If you want an outdoor movie to serve as a fundraiser, or you just want it to cover its own cost, you will have to plan on charging for admission and be prepared for a lot of people.

Getting enough people to show up may require some advertising though, and many outdoor movie companies offer marketing for an additional fee.

Independent filmmaking often takes place outside of Hollywood

Independent filmmaking often takes place outside of Hollywood, or other major studio systems. An independent film (or indie film) is a film initially produced without financing or distribution from a major movie studio. Creative, business, and technological reasons have all contributed to the growth of the indie film scene in the late 20th and early 21st century.

On the business side, the costs of big-budget studio films also leads to conservative choices in cast and crew. There is a trend in Hollywood towards co-financing (over two-thirds of the films put out by Warner Bros. in 2000 were joint ventures, up from 10% in 1987). A hopeful director is almost never given the opportunity to get a job on a big-budget studio film unless he or she has significant industry experience in film or television. Also, the studios rarely produce films with unknown actors, particularly in lead roles.

Before the advent of digital alternatives, the cost of professional film equipment and stock was also a hurdle to being able to produce, direct, or star in a traditional studio film. The cost of 35 mm film is outpacing inflation: in 2002 alone, film negative costs were up 23%, according to Variety.

But the advent of consumer camcorders in 1985, and more importantly, the arrival of high-resolution digital video in the early 1990s, have lowered the technology barrier to movie production significantly. Both production and post-production costs have been significantly lowered; today, the hardware and software for post-production can be installed in a commodity-based personal computer. Technologies such as DVDs, FireWire connections and non-linear editing system pro-level software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas and Apple's Final Cut Pro, and consumer level software such as Apple's Final Cut Express and iMovie make movie-making relatively inexpensive.

Since the introduction of DV technology, the means of production have become more democratized. Filmmakers can conceivably shoot and edit a movie, create and edit the sound and music, and mix the final cut on a home computer. However, while the means of production may be democratized, financing, distribution, and marketing remain difficult to accomplish outside the traditional system. Most independent filmmakers rely on film festivals to get their films noticed and sold for distribution. The arrival of internet-based video outlets such as YouTube and Veoh has further changed the film making landscape in ways that are still to be determined.

An open content film is much like an independent film, but it is produced through open collaborations; its source material is available under a license which is permissive enough to allow other parties to create fan fiction or derivative works, than a traditional copyright. Like independent filmmaking, open source filmmaking takes place outside of Hollywood, or other major studio systems.

The new video on demand website launched Wednesday, 12 March 2008 and is supported through advertising. Sound familiar? O.K. So it is somewhat like TV. Who cares? It is still a real entertainment alternative - a real entertainment value, and the Tennessee Mountain Man predicts it will be a big hit.
Like Tivo, you can fast forward, pause, etc. The only draw back is that if you are fast forwarding to skip an advertisement it won't exactly work. You will land on an ad you must allow to play to continue watching the movie.
